Hey guys! Been in new Zealand for 2 months now with gf, traveling from north to south island, taking in lots of sights. Beautiful! Now we're looking to settle a bit more somewhere, find some work and decent accommodation to save up all those funds we've spent. We're currently in Dunedin, trying to find work but I am skeptical since it's a student town and the competition is heavy; a lot of employers only seek out tertiary students as well, not working holiday people. I've been told Auckland is really our best bet, but since we'd be grabbing a plane out there (and selling our car), that's kind of a last resort. Also not sure if that even is our best bet. Where are the best places for work in your opinion? Are there any good cities on the South Island, where accommodation is also reasonably easy to find? And what are the best industries or places to be looking for/how to look for them? Thanks for any advice you can give!
What would the average cost I would be expecting? My visa allows me to stay up to 2 years, so I hope for long term accommodations at one place. Where would be areas I should avoid living at. What's crime like? I'm use to cities where I go on bike rides at till 1am at night with not much worry in mind. There are transit and buses where I live, but they take forever to get anywhere. Like over an hour to get to the other side of the city long. Then again, it's not really well structure here. So I'm wondering how it is there? What's the culture like there for things to do? The city I'm at, weekend partying and drinking are the things to do pretty much. Are there lots of opportunities to do other things I feel like going to an escape room, or go to the arcade, maybe go like that. I may be a visitor to your country but I would like to experience the way of life there. What's it like to make friends with people there? I'll most likely add more questions as the time goes by. edit 1: Seems everyone says to get a car.
